Emphasis will be on the head and face painted from life and
photographs.
Join Mike for a week of Portrait Painting Pleasure in
beautiful Lincoln, New Mexico, just a few minutes from Ruidoso.
The workshop will be held at the Lincoln School House Art Center
and Gallery which has recently been remodeled. Mike specializes
in portraiture, and will lead you into his methods with ease.
Ask any of his students who have painted in his latest workshops
and classes. Referrals are gladly given on request.
Some things you will learn:
* How to begin your portrait to insure success
* How to pose models and use lighting
* How to color correct for poor lighting situations
* Basic structure & proportions that once mastered amount to 80
to 90 percent of any portrait.
* Professional commercial art techniques for controlling your
drawing quality and accuracy

A word about skill levels
Mike assumes that workshop participants should have a basic
knowledge of materials and have had some experience painting
and/or drawing, but extensive experience is not necessary in
either oil or pastel painting.
The class will be directed to adults, but exception may be made
for serious teenagers accompanying their parents, or living in
the Lincoln area, and who have Mike’s approval. If you are a
true “beginner,” we encourage you to participate, but please
call for a preparatory phone consultation with Mike, before the
workshop.

After graduating from art school, Mike was the art director
of an advertising agency, of a large commercial printing
company, and the owner of a commercial art and photography
studio before starting his full time fine art career. During
his over 30 years of commercial and fine art experience, he has
developed the speed and accuracy that are essential in
successful painting and will show you how to do it, too.
